Wow. This post was enlightening. I’m sorry you’ve had such experiences. I didn’t know that was a thing. 😔 In our household, we love Asian food! My son is obsessed with Sushi, and we get Chinese takeout quite a bit. I also have a favorite shrimp and noodle dish I make.
Thank you for enjoying Asian food~ there is a lot of complexity and culture baked within the foods of different Asian cultures and nationalities and I hope you and your family can enjoy much!
Shrimp and noodles also might have to be the move for me today for lunch or something. Sounds yummy!
First, I’m so sorry for the unkind things that have been said to you … especially that most recent one!
But also, I love what you shared here, and just wanted you to know — we’re part of a multiethnic church where we have weekly lunches after service. This is often provided by the Korean members, so kimchi is a regular part of the menu, along with other dishes I don’t know how to spell yet 😅. I love the way this experience of eating together is a reminder of how we are one body, nourished together in Christ.
Your comment is so gentle and kind. Thank you for your words!
Wow! I love that you get to eat Korean food at your church :') I think eating other culture's foods within a church family is one of the best ways to experience the unifying essence of the Gospel. So jealous of your experience, Joy. Thank you for sharing!
THIS was your best post yet. It reminded me of taking Cultural Communication Theory - we had a section on food where we discussed hegemony and what voices tend to be missing, and this is a perfect example. If this doesn't portray the need for reading and writing, I don't know what does.

Thank you for the note, Jenn! Sorry I missed it.

Thank you for the kind words AGAIN, Annah!!! You're too sweet.
I think everyone in the church, regardless of ethnic background, should take that class LOL.
I'll continue to write on similar topics...it seems this has struck a chord with several folks!
